The bank announced the promotions in a December 9 memo, seen by FN, that was sent out by head of the division Manolo Falcó. A spokeswoman for the bank confirmed the contents of the memo.

Those promoted include 35-year old Theo Giatrakos, the bank’s head of investment banking for Greece and Cyprus who was named in this year’s FN 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in Investment Banking list. He has been with the bank since 2011.

Others include Peter Brown, who joined the bank in 2014 from Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a director in its UK broking team and Rifat Sensin, who joined in 2001 and focuses on energy and natural resources, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The others promoted to MD in Emea were Giovanni Castaldo, Brodie Donaldson, Ciaran Kelleher, Rahul Rajesh, Maja Torun and Miguel Trueba Salcedo.

In the memo, Falcó said “these promotions are a personal achievement and a mark of distinction”. He also thanked the bank’s existing MDs for “the exemplary job you have done this year”.

In total, 113 people were promoted to the rank of managing director globally across Citi’s institutional client group.

The annual promotions come a month after Goldman Sachs named 84 staff to the rank of partner globally, including its highest percentage of women ever promoted.
