Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the rose 0.54% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the were Anglo American PLC (LON:), which rose 7.58% or 87.50 points to trade at 1242.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco PLC (LON:) added 6.25% or 12.55 points to end at 213.43 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:) was up 5.44% or 170.500 points to 3303.500 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:), which fell 2.94% or 10.80 points to trade at 357.20 at the close. Admiral Group PLC (LON:) declined 2.46% or 45.00 points to end at 1783.00 and DCC (LON:) was down 1.93% or 120.0 points to 6085.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1071 to 906 and 411 ended unchanged.
Shares in Rio Tinto PLC (LON:) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.44% or 170.500 to 3303.500.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.01% or 0.10 to $ 1185.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.92% or 0.48 to hit $ 51.48 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.15% or 0.63 to trade at $ 54.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.2165, while EUR/GBP fell 0.14% to 0.8684.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 101.96.
