The worst performers of the session were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:), which fell 4.52% or 122.00 points to trade at 2576.00 at the close. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:) declined 2.77% or 9.90 points to end at 347.00 and Shire PLC (LON:) was down 2.51% or 117.50 points to 4566.53.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1144 to 748 and 446 ended unchanged.

GBP/USD was down 0.09% to 1.2203, while EUR/GBP rose 0.76% to 0.8734.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.66% at 101.03.
